is the father of two young children: a girl of 16 and a boy of 8. By the way he shines when speaking of his wife and kids, it’s clear that Juan Carlos is a devoted family man.

Juan Carlos, 37, was born in Mexico City. His parents are originally from the poverty-ridden state of Guerrero, yet they moved to Central Mexico in the 70s in search of a better life.

Juan Carlos is a talented and dedicated welder, industrial worker, and operations supervisor with 18 years of work experience. He has worked for several large corporations and is currently a freelancer, performing jobs for different metal-industry and industrial-repair projects in the Toluca area.

Five years ago, faced with economic difficulties, Juan Carlos travelled to the U.S. in search of work. He lived in Texas working in construction and then moved to North Carolina where he served as a manager at a restaurant. However, when the economy slowed and migration crackdowns in the U.S. increased, he was forced to return to Mexico—with three years of international experience and some English under his belt.

When not working, Juan Carlos likes to play soccer with his young boy, help his daughter with schoolwork, and cheer on his favorite soccer team, the Pumas.

Our Open World is riven between those who are free to move and those who are still tied to one place. This is morally wrong, economically stupid and politically unsustainable. Opening our border offers huge opportunities for all. Our rallying cry for a better world must be “Let Them In.”
